Nordisk Film to acquire the rights to Swedish books

22.02.2016

Nordisk Film will now get access to stories from some of Sweden's leading authors. A new deal with the literary agency Partners in Stories is to ensure stronger films and TV series in Sweden and internationally.

Bestsellers are in high demand in the film industry where competition to acquire the rights to adapt the best new novels to the screen is getting fiercer. Scandinavia's leading film company Nordisk Film is therefore announcing its cooperation with Swedish literary agency Partners in Stories. The aim is to strengthen the Swedish film industry through even more successful storytelling on film and TV.

The cooperation is a "First Look" deal, which also includes a Nordic scout element, meaning that Nordisk Film initially will have a preferential right to film and television rights for the stories which Partners in Stories acquire from the authors represented by the agency.

"More and more successes on film and TV are based on well-known novels. That is a competitive parameter, and we would like to be able to buy rights that we can develop both internally and with our external partners in Scandinavia and abroad. We will be expanding our business in Sweden even further, and our deal with Partners in Stories gives us a fantastic opportunity to get closer to leading Swedish authors in our constant quest for strong stories with strong audience potential," says Lone Korslund, Head of Acquisitions & Co-productions at Nordisk Film.

Partners in Stories wants to be a place where the good stories are hatched, transformed and travel the world in different formats. The deal with Nordisk Film is therefore in perfect tune with this strategy.

”It was an offer we couldn’t refuse – to engage in this, from a Scandinavian perspective, unconventional cooperation with Nordisk Film. Nordisk film brings diversity, skills and ambition. We accepted the challenge of finding the right stories that match Nordisk Film's vision without hesitation," says Jonas Axelsson, CEO, founder and co-owner of Partners in Stories, just as Calle Marthin, who is the producer at the agency.

Nordisk Film has distributed and co-produced Swedish films and TV series such as the "Johan Falk" and "Beck" series, the "Millennium" trilogy, the "Snabba Cash" trilogy, the "Sune" films, "Tsatsiki" and most recently "En mand som hedder Ove", which has been seen by more than 1.3 million Swedes.
