When the international Canneseries festival takes place from April 23–28, it will feature a strong Danish presence. The critically acclaimed police series SNAKE KILLER starring Pilou Asbæk has been selected for the main competition and will compete for five different awards: Best Series, Best Screenplay, Best Music, Best Acting, and the Special Performance Award.

“With SNAKE KILLER, Anders Ølholm demonstrates that he is a leading creator who transforms raw realism into powerful, artistically accomplished narratives, of which we are immensely proud. With more than 1,000 European series produced each year, it is a great honor to be among the select few chosen to participate at Canneseries,” say the series’ producers, Mette Høst Hansen and Mia Marie Borup.

A significant achievement

SNAKE KILLER (Original Danish title: SLANGEDRÆBER) follows “Smiley” (Pilou Asbæk) and his colleagues in the Uropatruljen, the most notorious police unit in Danish history. When his informant is killed, Smiley launches a hunt for “Hugormen,” a legendary heroin kingpin. Constantly in danger of falling victim to police reforms or the gangs’ brutal methods, Smiley and Uropatruljen fight to secure justice for themselves and their city.

SNAKE KILLER is written, conceived, and directed by Anders Ølholm, who previously created SHORTA and FLOW among others. The series consists of four 50-minute episodes; Kasper Munk directed episodes 3 and 4. It is produced by Mia Marie Borup and Mette Høst Hansen for Nordisk Film Production with support from the Public Service Fund and premiered on Prime Video on January 16, 2026. In addition to Pilou Asbæk, the cast includes Lars Ranthe, Joen Højerslev, Joey Moe, Mira Elisa Obling, and Laura Christensen.

“It’s a massive nod to everyone who has contributed their talent and hard work that the unique qualities of SNAKE KILLER are being seen and recognized internationally. It speaks to the series’ high standard and firmly establishes it in the international series landscape. It’s absolutely fantastic!” says Katrine Vogelsang, CEO of Nordisk Film Production.
