Since 2019, initiator Henrik Hansen has been working to realise the dream of an Olsen Gang statue. At the request of the late Morten Grunwald, the statue will be placed facing the Nordisk Film studios on Mosedalvej.

The statue, which consists of three bronze figures of Egon, Benny and Kjeld, was created by artist Thor Larsen. In April, the statue was cast in bronze in Florence. It will arrive in Denmark in May, where it will be placed on a pedestal by a stonemason. The Olsen Gang statue will then be ready for its inauguration. This will realise six years of hard work for initiator and chairman of the Olsen Banden Statue Association, Henrik Hansen, who has raised DKK 2 million in donations.

"It's just great! The Olsen Gang films gave me great joy as a child, and I've realised how important they are to many Danes in general. I'm therefore pleased that we've finally succeeded in getting a statue of Egon, Benny and Kjeld erected, which will hopefully become a landmark in Valby," says Henrik Hansen.

Timeless and popular

The Olsen Gang films were created by Erik Balling and produced by Nordisk Film, and CEO Allan Mathson Hansen is delighted that the statue can now be unveiled.

"The Olsen Gang is not only inextricably linked to us at Nordisk Film, but to all of Denmark. Erik Balling's film series about the gang with the big plans is a timeless and lovable portrait of the Danish national soul that inspires not only the old, but also the young generations. We are proud to have supported Henrik Hansen's commendable initiative," says Allan Mathson Hansen.

The Olsen Gang films are among the Danes' absolute favourite films of all time, and on the streaming service Nordisk Film+, the collection of all 14 films is also among the most popular content. Danes have streamed millions of hours with Egon, Benny and Kjeld in the picture.
