Both director Emilie Blichfeldt and the duo Joachim Trier and Eskil Vogt have recently gained international recognition from the Oscars for their films. On Wednesday night at the Norwegian award ceremony ISBJØRNEN, Blichfeldt received Nordisk Films Talentpris for her debut feature THE UGLY STEPSISTER, while Trier and Vogt won the Kon-Tiki-prisen for SENTIMENTAL VALUE. In addition, Green Producers Club received the VEIVISEREN Award for their green initiatives within the Norwegian film industry.

Nordisk Films Talentpris

In addition to directing the award-winning international success THE UGLY STEPSISTER, Emilie Blichfeldt also wrote the screenplay for the film. With its confident and bold visual style, the film turns a familiar story on its head, transforming it into provocative, contemporary Norwegian film art. The film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and has since won, and been nominated for, a number of awards - most recently receiving an Oscars Award nomination for Best Hair and Makeup.

The jury’s statement includes the following:

“We applaud the director’s feminist signature and hope she will continue to embrace it in her future projects. The film is excellently cast, the direction of actors is strong, and Lea Myhren in the leading role in particular deserves great recognition for her performance. We look forward to following this director’s upcoming films.”

Commenting on winning Nordisk Films Talentpris, Blichfeldt said:

“One of my greatest talents is surrounding myself with - and making use of - highly skilled people. Directors are often credited with everything and described as the genius behind it all, but filmmaking is an incredibly collaborative process. As a director, you create your art with the help of other artists’ contributions, and I therefore want to dedicate this award to all my creative collaborators.”

She added:

“Winning Nordisk Films Talentpris of course provides valuable financial support, but even more importantly, it offers motivation and encouragement to develop my next project. At a time when Norwegian film is overflowing with talent, this recognition feels especially meaningful.”

Kon-Tiki-prisen

Kon-Tiki-prisen is presented to filmmakers or actors who, over the past year, have helped place Norwegian film on the global map - and one would have had to live under a rock not to have noticed the international journey of the nine-time Oscar-nominated SENTIMENTAL VALUE. With more than 250 nominations, over 50 awards, and a remarkable Oscar campaign, the film has secured a place in Norwegian film history.

In the jury’s statement, they note the following about the winners:

“Over a number of years, Trier and Vogt have developed a truly unique collaboration, resulting in a series of highly acclaimed and internationally recognised films. They have not only created strong and ambitious films for a national audience, but have also ensured attention for Norwegian cinema far beyond the country’s borders.”

“We are deeply impressed by everyone involved in this film, both in front of and behind the camera, but this special recognition is awarded to Joachim Trier and Eskil Vogt for SENTIMENTAL VALUE.”

Veiviseren

Veiviseren is presented to an organisation that demonstrates the ability to think innovatively and pave the way for the Norwegian film industry. On Wednesday evening, Green Producers Club received the award for their Green Producers Tool, with founders Mads Astrup Rønning and Marthe Haakensen present to accept the prize.

The tool enables producers and suppliers to measure the CO₂ emissions of a film or television production, thereby making it possible to take informed, knowledge-based green decisions within the industry.

The jury’s statement:

“Through the development of the Green Producers Tool, Green Producers Club has transformed green production from a visionary idea into something measurable and concrete within our field. They have developed a tool that will be essential for the entire industry as we adapt to new requirements and frameworks, such as the Nordic Ecological Standard. Their work began in Norway, but is now ongoing across all Nordic countries.”

“The winner has demonstrated an impressive initiative in creating shared tools that elevate the entire industry. Green Producers Club receives this award because they show how an inevitable green transition can be implemented in practice.”
