Underpinned by a strong appetite for local and homely film experiences, Finland becomes the first new market in which Nordisk Film+ is launched as a standalone streaming service.
Nordisk Film is expanding its streaming service Nordisk Film+ to Finland, making it available in all four Nordic countries. In Finland, the service will be offered both directly to consumers - as in Denmark - and via the streaming platform Ruutu, owned by Sanoma, Finland’s largest media and entertainment company.
In Sweden and Norway, Nordisk Film+ is distributed through local partnerships. Finland is therefore the first new market in which Nordisk Film+ is launching as a standalone streaming service.
"Nordisk Film+ is today a leading streaming service for Danish films, and we have seen strong and sustained subscriber growth since we launched in 2022. That is the result of a unique catalogue, a competitively priced product and a clear identity. We are now bringing that success and that foundation with us into the Finnish market," says Kasper Rasmussen, Head of Consumer Channels at Nordisk Film.
Finns are enthusiastic film consumers
The Finnish launch is underpinned by a combination of proven success in existing markets and strong local interest: a YouGov survey shows that Nordisk Film+ has access to eight out of ten of Finns’ all-time favourite local films*, and that interest in Nordisk Film+ is just as strong in Finland as it is in Denmark.**
The catalogue features a broad selection of Finnish comedies, dramas and family films. In addition to Finnish titles, the Finnish version of Nordisk Film+ will also include a handpicked selection of Hollywood productions, Nordic hits and a dedicated children's universe, launching at a price of €5.99 per month.
”Nordisk Film+ is thriving in Denmark, and with the growing supply of American series, we are seeing a strong appetite for local and homely film experiences across the Nordic markets. Finland is a natural next step – it is one of the countries in the world most enthusiastic about local films, and our catalogue speaks directly to that demand,” says Kasper Rasmussen.
Local foundation in place
Nordisk Film already has an experienced local team in Helsinki with in-depth knowledge of the Finnish market and Finnish consumers. This is a prerequisite for the service to deliver a relevant product that resonates with the Finnish audience. Kasper Rasmussen is also pleased about the partnership with Sanoma:
”Sanoma is the perfect partner for Nordisk Film+ in Finland. As Finland’s largest media and entertainment company, they share our passion for local films, and the partnership gives us access to a large and engaged customer base on Ruutu from day one,” says Kasper Rasmussen.
Lassi Tasajärvi, Director, International Acquisitions & Partnerships at Sanoma, adds:
“We want to provide our partners with a platform that accelerates audience and subscriber growth in Finland. We are delighted that Nordisk Film has chosen Ruutu as its launch partner in Finland, and we are excited to bring Finnish viewers even more of the local and Nordic stories they love,” says Lassi Tasajärvi.
