The highly regarded Danish platform for film news and cinema ticket sales will be strengthened and future-proofed as part of Filmweb, which brings nearly 30 years of experience in developing digital solutions for the film and cinema industry. Current Editor-in-Chief Daniel Bentien will assume the role of CEO of Kino.dk.
The successful Norwegian film portal Filmweb will take over ownership of Kino.dk at the turn of the year. Since 1997, Filmweb has been the leading source of news and information about new film releases in Norway, and it is also possible to buy tickets for a wide range of Norwegian cinemas on Filmweb. Filmweb’s platforms are used by cinemas and film distributors in Norway, Sweden, Finland and Denmark.
“We are very pleased to take over ownership of Kino.dk so that Danes can continue to have access to a nationwide platform for film content and cinema ticket sales. Filmweb is a technology company that develops and promotes products within ticket sales, gift cards, industry solutions and membership services. We connect audiences and the film industry on Norway’s largest film portal and are constantly working to get more people to go to the cinema. Our vision is to be the first choice in the Nordic region when it comes to film inspiration,” says Harald Løbak Sæther, CEO of Filmweb.
A fantastic opportunity
Kino.dk was founded in 2009 by Nordisk Film Cinemas and Cinemaxx (now Vue), which own 74 per cent and 26 per cent of the company, respectively. The website sells cinema tickets for more than 50 cinemas across the country. Kino.dk provides extensive information about current and upcoming film premieres and has its own editorial team that delivers daily news about both Danish and international films.
“We want to do the same for users, partners, owners and everyone who loves films and cinemas in the Danish market as we have done in Norway over the years. We are impressed by Kino.dk’s editorial team, which produces high-quality content, and we see significant synergies between Filmweb and Kino.dk in terms of technology, editorial content and sales,” says Harald Løbak Sæther.
Kino.dk will continue as an independent company, and Kino.dk’s Editor-in-Chief, Daniel Bentien, will be appointed as the new CEO of Kino.dk as of 5 January 2026. He looks forward to continuing the development of the Danish film site:
"Kino.dk’s mission is to inspire Danes to watch films at the cinema. As the new director, I look forward to continuing to create the best content about new and upcoming cinema films. Filmweb’s ownership provides some fantastic opportunities to raise the technical and commercial level for the benefit of both users and the industry," says Daniel Bentien.
Chairman of the board of Kino.dk and CFO of Nordisk Film Cinemas Nicolai Loft Demring says:
“Kino.dk has been a strong voice for film distribution in Denmark for many years, and we are delighted that this work can now continue at Filmweb. With Filmweb as the new owner, we see a strong match, and we look forward to the Kino.dk platform being strengthened and developed under Filmweb’s leadership.”
