Director Hella Joof and the core creative team behind THE LAND OF SHORT SENTENCES (Meter i sekundet) the most-watched Danish film in cinemas in 2023 are reuniting for the comedy WILD HORSES, an adaptation of Stine Pilgaard’s acclaimed new novel of the same name.

The couple Marie and Rasmus have relocated to the suburb of Husum and find themselves plunged into the chaotic reality of family life with young children. Navigating playgrounds, soccer fields, job applications, interrupted intimacy, and the endless demands of the daily grind, the story explores responsibility, dreams, and the bittersweet paradoxes of modern adulthood.

Hella Joof Returns to the Director’s Chair

Joof, whose recent directorial work includes NØJSOMHEDEN, has directed numerous major Danish audience favorites throughout her career, including SHAKE IT ALL ABOUT, OH HAPPY DAY, ALL INCLUSIVE, and THE LAND OF SHORT SENTENCES.

Hella Joof says: "This completely derails my plans for a much-needed retirement. But there is simply no way around it. Stine has written yet another wonderful novel about being a human being in the middle of the world. A woman navigating a relationship, kids, a house, a mortgage, neighbors, weeds, responsibilities, and everything else you were utterly unprepared for.

How do you know what to do? Do you just copy the other parents on the playground, or can you carve out your own path? And what do you do with all your love for humanity when you’re forced to slip into blue plastic shoe covers at daycare? Can you make peace with the madness that is suburban family life? Maybe even yearn for the rat race everyone scoffs at, but which you’ve never actually experienced because no two days are ever the same. If only they were!

That’s what we’re trying to figure out. Perhaps the answer lies in the song of the corkscrew willow. Stay tuned."

The Creative Team and Cast Reunite

Producers Trin Hjortkjær Thomsen and Camilla Hammerich, whose recent credits alongside THE LAND OF SHORT SENTENCES include TAKE CARE and OFF THE RECORD, are producing WILD HORSES for Nordisk Film Production.

"We look forward to telling the next chapter in the love story of Marie and Rasmus, who now find themselves in the wonderful chaos of parenthood in brand-new suburban surroundings. It is a true honor once again to bring national bard Stine Pilgaard’s poetic voice to the big screen as a heartfelt comedy," say producers Trin Hjortkjær Thomsen and Camilla Hammerich.

Leading actors Sofie Torp and Thomas Hwan will reprise their roles as Marie and Rasmus, embarking on this next chapter of adulthood together.

The screenplay is written by acclaimed author and screenwriter Jenny Lund Madsen, who also adapted THE LAND OF SHORT SENTENCES and has penned numerous successful TV series, films, and novels.

Loved by Readers and Critics

Stine Pilgaard's new novel with the Danish title Ti vilde heste was published in September 2026. Jacob Søndergaard, CEO of Gutkind Forlag, says:

"The book has received glowing reviews, and Stine Pilgaard has once again been highlighted as one of the funniest writers in Danish literature. She absolutely is, but she also possesses a rare human wisdom and clear-sightedness. That is why she is loved by hundreds of thousands of readers and cinemagoers alike. All of us at Gutkind, along with her many other fans, are impatiently looking forward to Nordisk Film’s upcoming film adaptation."

Stine Pilgaard herself is thrilled that the core team behind THE LAND OF SHORT SENTENCES is reuniting to adapt her new novel:

"When you’ve spent months sitting alone in your basement writing a book, it’s incredible to think that an entire film crew - a huge group of talented people - will dedicate their time and energy to translating your words into images. Having Hella Joof set the film’s tone once again means the world to me. It’s essential that she - just like me - loves all of her characters, and that we fundamentally share the same view of the world and the people in it.

I’m so pleased that Nordisk Film wants to continue the universe, as I also view my novels as extensions of one another. While it isn’t an autobiography, Ti vilde heste draws on moods and emotional states from my own life, and I can’t wait to see them interpreted and brought to life by Sofie Torp and Thomas Hwan, and adapted by Jenny Lund Madsen, whom I consider a master of narrative plotting.

I have immense faith in the entire team - not least because several of my favorite scenes in THE LAND OF SHORT SENTENCES were actually the ones created specifically for the screen and not lifted straight from the page. It will be so exciting to see what they bring to WILD HORSES."
