The international success of Magnus Von Horn and Nordisk Film's THE GIRL WITH THE NEEDLE continues. Just two days after the film won two awards at the European Film Awards, it has now been announced that the film has been nominated for Best Non-English Language Film at the prestigious Golden Globe Awards.

The last Danish film to be nominated in the category was Thomas Vinterberg's ANOTHER ROUND in 2021, while Jonas Poher Rasmussen's FLEE was nominated in the Best Animated Feature Film category in 2022. However, you have to go all the way back to 2010 and Susanne Bier's THE REVENGE to find the last Danish film to win the prestigious award.

The winners of the 82nd Golden Globe Awards will be announced on January 6, 2025.

The Golden Globe Awards is an annual awards ceremony presented by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) since 1944 to celebrate achievements in film and television, both American and international. The awards ceremony is recognized as one of the most important precursors to the Oscars and is said to have a strong influence on the outcome of the Academy Awards.

International succes

THE GIRL WITH THE NEEDLE had its world premiere at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival, where it was selected for the main competition and received a phenomenal reception from critics. The international success continued when the film was selected for the Toronto International Film Festival in September this year.

Most recently, THE GIRL WITH THE NEEDLE received two awards at Europe's answer to the Oscars - the prestigious European Film Awards: Excellence Awards for Best Film Score, composed by Danish musician Frederikke Hoffmeier, and Best Cinematography by Jagna Dobesz. Magnus von Horn and Line Langebek were also nominated for Best Screenplay and both Vic Carmen Sonne and Trine Dyrholm for Best Actress.

In addition, THE GIRL WITH THE NEEDLE won the Golden Frog at the 32nd edition of EnergaCAMERIMAGE, the international film festival dedicated to celebrating and recognising cinematography, and the film won four awards at the Seville European Film Festival for Best Director, Best Scenography, Best Cinematography, and Trine Dyrholm won Best Actress.

The film is currently sold to the US, UK, Germany, Canada, France, India, Japan, Ireland, Austria, Turkey, Yugoslavia, the Baltic States, Italy, Latin America, Spain, Portugal, Greece, Benelux and South Korea.

THE GIRL WITH THE NEEDLE has also been selected as the Danish candidate for an Oscar nomination.
