Loveable is a critically acclaimed Norwegian drama written, directed, and edited by Lilja Ingolfsdottir. The film premiered in Norway in October 2024 and has won multiple festival prizes across Europe. NRK has announced it as Film of the Year. Loveable stars Helga Gurel and Oddgeir Thune in the lead roles and is produced by Oscar-nominated producer Thomas Robsahm.

Plot

The story follows Maria, who struggles to balance parenthood and a demanding career while her second husband, Sigmund, frequently travels for work. As the strain of competing needs begins to take its toll, their marriage starts to unravel. Despite Maria’s desperate efforts to salvage their relationship, Sigmund ultimately informs her of his desire for a divorce, forcing her to confront her deepest fears. The film delves into contemporary notions of romance, equality within relationships, and the empowerment of womanhood.

A Strong Norwegian Cast

Maria is portrayed by actor and performing artist Helga Gurel. With over 15 years of experience, Helga has worked at Norway's leading performing arts institutions and has appeared in numerous films, shorts, and TV series. Her role as Maria in Loveable marks her first lead role in a film. In addition to acting, she is a dancer, musician, composer, and singer. She leads the music collective Guren Salong and the trio Tractus.

Sigmund is played by Oddgeir Thune. A graduate of the Academy of Theatre (Oslo National Academy of Arts – KhiO) in 2011, Thune has been active in Norwegian films and television for several years. His notable performances include roles in Power Play (2024), Suck It Up (2022), and Home For Christmas (2020).

Creative Team

Loveable is written, directed, and edited by Lilja Ingolfsdottir. Ingolfsdottir is a celebrated figure in the Norwegian film industry, recognized for her work with awards and grants that highlight her significant contributions to Norwegian short films. Loveable is her feature debut. She also teaches screenwriting and directing at the Norwegian Film School and has developed several feature film scripts while working as a script consultant.

The film is produced by Thomas Robsahm, who received the Aamot Award in 2021 for his outstanding contribution to the Norwegian film industry. A member of The Academy (Oscars), Robsahm has produced more than 50 films over his illustrious career.
