A single kajak on the fjord, above the eye of KRAKEN

The thrilling creature feature from Nordisk Film Production arrives in cinemas delivering intense suspense and explosive action with state-of-the-art visual fidelity.

When a village in Sognefjorden is hit by mysterious events, marine biologist Johanne Berge is sent to the village to investigate. Strange natural phenomena, ominous sounds from the depths, and a tragic unexplained accident raise suspicions that something dangerous is threatening Norway’s deepest fjord. As Johanne will soon discover, the mythical KRAKEN, an ancient, multi-armed monster, has awakened, ready to crush everything that moves or makes a sound…

From renowned director Pål Øie (VILLMARK, THE TUNNEL) and Nordisk Film Production comes a groundbreaking Nordic monster action movie, bound to thrill and delight cinema audiences kicking off with the gala premieres in Oslo and Bergen.

- After years of dedicated work, it's an absolute joy to finally present KRAKEN to our home audience! Bringing this ancient monster back to the magnificent Norwegian fjords feels incredibly meaningful, and the fact that KRAKEN has already secured distribution across international territories is a tremendous validation of both our vision and the enduring power of Norwegian folklore," says producer John Einar Hagen.

A peak visual experience

It was in Bergen the very first accounts of the Kraken were recorded in the 18th century by Danish bishop Erik Pontoppidan. These historical reports have been a key source of inspiration for the latest big-screen version of the fabled sea monster, brought to life by Nordisk Film.

To take the visual experience to the highest level for cinema audiences, the producers and Nordisk Film Shortcut Oslo, have worked closely with Dolby at the Olympic Studios in Barnes, London to make KRAKEN the first Scandinavian feature film to be graded and mastered in Dolby Vision Cinema. This cutting-edge HDR imaging technology has allowed for ultimate control over cinematic light, saturation and texture, ensuring a cinema experience that truly reflects the creative vision behind the film.

KRAKEN is produced by John Einar Hagen and Einar Loftesnes, and written by Vilde Eide, Kjersti Helen Rasmussen and Natasha Arthur. The strong cast is headlined by Sara Khorami, Mikkel Bratt Silset, and Øyvind Brandtzæg.
