Alice Prisen honors a director or screenwriter who, with humor, courage, and artistic strength, succeeds in uniting a broad cinema audience.

Groundbreaking filmmaking and audience appeal

Established in 2025, Alice Prisen is named after the groundbreaking director and screenwriter Alice O'Fredericks – Denmark’s first female film director and one of the most prolific filmmakers in Danish history.

She directed more than 70 feature films, including major audience favourites such as FATHER OF FOUR and many film adaptations of Morten Korch’s novels.

With Alice Prisen we honor an individual, either a film writer or a film director, who through their works has successfully gathered and entertained a large audience in Danish cinemas.

The recipient is someone who creates narratives that connect, transform, and captivate, and courageously offers their unique perspective on human behavior to the audience, whether that viewpoint is skewed, bizarre, ironic, caricatured, or direct.

Furthermore, the individual builds a bridge between the popular and the elite, aiming to reach a broad audience with humor, insight, and both artistic and technical mastery.

The award committee

The award committee consists of 3-5 members. They serve for a year at a time, with a maximum of three consecutive years. Once someone steps down, they'll need to wait three years before they can rejoin, no matter how long they served. It's up to this committee to pick the award recipient themselves, following the set guidelines.
